Five years ago, we open-sourced JuiceFS, assuming that excellent code would build a community. We learned that sustainability relies on complex factors beyond metrics like stars or PR counts. This talk shares our five-year retrospective, using public data to explore what truly matters for infrastructure projects.
We examine contributor growth vs. user adoption, license and commercial impacts on trust, and how to balance open-source ideals with business. This isn't a ranking but a practical framework for assessing community health, aimed at helping other projects navigate the realities of "open source + commercial operations."
